HOMILY FOR THURSDAY OF THE 1ST WEEK OF LENT.

Esther 14:1-14; Matthew 7:7-12
Jesus makes us a direct promise today. “If you then, who are evil, know how to give your children what is good, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask him?” In our first reading today, Queen Esther trusted God enough to depend on Him completely when her life and the lives of her people were in danger. In penitence, she asked help from God and got it.

In the same vein, we must learn to trust God and ask Him for whatever graces we NEED. Did you make a resolution to strive harder this Lent? Is it working out yet? Don’t worry! Ask God for renewed zeal and grace today. Have you been treating others like thrash, because of an inner disposition of anger, malice, revenge or frustration? Jesus is calling you today. He wants you to have a new life in Him. Drop those burdens, come to his feet and simply ask Him for forgiveness, and grace for a new beginning.
