Homily for the Sunday of Lent, Year C

Greatness is thrust upon some people while some people achieve greatness. In the Gospel periscope of Mk. 10:35-45, the two sons of Zebedee James and John came to Jesus with pernicious ambition. They want greatness to be thrusted upon them by asking Jesus to allow them to be at his right and left hand of glory. But Jesus reminded us that true greatness is achieved by accepting God’s gift for us and using it to serve others. The greatest gift of God is Love (unconditional love). As we serve others unconditionally in our individual respective, may it’s product makes us great both now and forever.
