HOMILY FOR THE MEMORIAL OF ST. FRANCIS DE SALES.
THEME: I come to do your will!
BY: Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor (Uromi Diocese).
Heb.10:1-10; Mark 3:31-35
Doing the will of God does not require that we become someone else. It’s usually just about rediscovering who we truly are; that is, who we were always made to be. Today, Jesus teaches the crowd an important lesson about relationships. Those who do God’s will are members of His own divine family. Whenever we dispose ourselves to God’s will as Mary and Joseph did, we become intimately united with him. We must take this message to our immediate blood relations, and even out to those we encounter on daily basis.
RELATED: HOMILY FOR TUESDAY OF THE 3RD WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR I
It can be quite difficult to preach among those to whom you’re very well known. But Francis the Sales did it so well, he succeeded in bringing many Calvinists back to the Church. He taught us that holiness is not reserved for monks and hermits alone, nor should the striving for it make us less ourselves. He was driven by love, rather than by a desire to win, and it is to him that we owe the injunction “whoever wants to preach effectively must preach with love.” As we struggle to become more united with Christ, may we like St Francis always learn to put love first, as we strive to do God’s will, Amen.
