*Michael, Gabriel, Raphael: the Archangels*
With the words of Jesus to Philip in today’s readings, our Christian hope in the beatific vision is intensified. The apocalyptic images in Daniel present the Son of Man emerging and receiving power and dominion from the Ancient of Days (Daniel 7:13-14).
There is no true revelation without Christ! The Incarnation of Jesus is the climax of God’s self revelation. If we live in union with him while on earth, we shall also be revealed with him in heaven. As Paul says, “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, naither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God has prepared for them that love him.” (1 Cor. 2:9).
As we long to share in these heavenly realities, of which the Archangels we celebrate today, Michael, Gabriel and Raphael, are a part of, let us remember that only the pure in heart shall see God (Matthew 5:8). Let us also note that just as Jesus saw Philip’s actions long before he appeared, God sees all our actions on earth and he knows our hearts. May we, therefore, strive to live lives worthy of our Christian calling. And may God’s holy countenance be always upon us to protect and bless us, through Christ our Lord, amen.
