HOMILY FOR MONDAY OF THE 24TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME CYCLE II

THEME: Faith in the strangest places!

BY: Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor (Uromi Diocese)

HOMILY FOR MONDAY SEPTEMBER 12 2022

1.Cor 11:17-26,33; Luke 7:1-10

Wealth seems to naturally displace humility and faith. The one who wields so much power and authority seldom sees the need to be humble or have any serious relationship with God. But today, we see the complete opposite. A Roman centurion, in charge of a hundred soldiers, displays exceptional faith and humility. He was so kind hearted that the Jews who naturally hated the Romans found a way to love him. They even recommended him to Jesus.

Friends, love and compassion come before tribal or religious sentiments. We can be so carried away with selfish interests that we begin to create factions in Church, even during ceremonies of the Lord’s Supper, as the Corinthians did in the first reading. But the Centurion teaches us rare faith and compassion. He was not concerned about himself, but about his servant. Can you imagine? Only say the word Lord, and my soul shall be healed. May we learn something of this deep faith and compassion, Amen.

Good morning dear. God bless your week ahead
