HOMILY FOR FRIDAY OF THE 3RD WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR I.
THEME: The righteous will live by faith!
BY: Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor (Uromi Diocese).
Heb.10:32-39; Ps.37; Mark 4:26-34
Perhaps the greatest problem we have today is the lack of faith. While some persons continue to insult us on social media for preaching non violence, today’s first reading assures us that the righteous live by faith. If all the Apostles of Jesus (except one) were killed violently, many Christians in the early Church persecuted in the most bizarre ways, and yet Christianity didn’t die, what makes us think it will die now? We must remember that we need endurance to do God’s will and gain what he has promised.
RELATED: HOMILY FOR FRIDAY OF THE 3RD WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR I
Friends, some Christians today have this funny notion that the future of Christianity depends solely on them. This is either stack ignorance, or a deliberate misrepresentation of scripture. Today’s gospel reading reminds us that God’s Kingdom is like seed which a man threw on the land. While he sleeps, the seed grows of its own accord and produces fruit. It is like Mustard Seed which starts small but grows into the greatest shrub of all. We are called to preach God’s word, but how this word takes root in people’s heart is not our doing. That is entirely God’s prerogative.
Good morning dear. God bless your weekend ahead.
