HOMILY FOR FRIDAY AFTER ASH WEDNESDAY. (1)

HOMILY FOR FRIDAY AFTER ASH WEDNESDAY.

THEME: The genuine fast!

BY: Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor (Uromi Diocese)

Is.58:1-9; Matt.9:14-15

This is the season of Lent. True! And many of us will indeed fast and abstain from many things during this period. However, the first reading specifically reminds us that we can’t continue to hang our heads like bereaved people, pretending to be fasting, when we still do shady businesses, quarrel and squabble, and oppress the poor around us.

Friends, self denial makes no sense if it does not involve breaking unjust fetters, undoing the yokes weighing people down, letting the oppressed go free, sharing our bread with the hungry, giving shelter to the homeless, clothing the naked, and not turning from our own kin. So as you go about your daily duties today, don’t just think about fasting from food and drinks. Also think about what good can be done to significantly reduce the reign of sin and wickedness in our world.

Good morning dear. God bless your weekend ahead.
