FRIDAY: HOMILY FOR 3RD WEEK IN ADVENT – YEAR B
THEME: “I will establish a House for You”

(a) In fourth Sunday of Advent, we learn of David. God fought for him, destroyed all his enemies before him, gave him strength and authority. In thanksgiving, David wanted to build a house for God since the Ark of God only dwells in a tent. In reply through Nathan, God told David, I will establish a house for you. Simply said; God made David feel at home in his own Kingdom.

(b) This is the prayer and joy of the season; that God comes to us to establish a home for us, he comes not as a visitor but as a co-inhabitant, He is called Immanuel, God is with us. He comes to us with his peace which should characterize every place called home. David at the time felt at home.
(c) An inhabitant where fights, quarrels, anxieties and fears reign is not best described as a home. Such is the case with many houses and families. Many do not feel at home in their own proper house. Some houses and families are broken, divided and have even become dreadful. Accepting the will of God as Mary did “be it done to me according to your words” removes fear in our hearts “do not be afraid” she told Mary” It gives room for Christ in our hearts. There he builds the home for each person, one has joy and peace of the soul. God is a great builder. He makes something new even out of nothing, “for him, nothing is impossible” He can build our homes a new. With Christ we feel at home. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
