HOMILY FOR WEDNESDAY AUGUST 31 2022
C.S. Lewis author of “Problem of Evil” wrote: “God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks to us in our consciences, but shouts in our pains.” At different times in our lives, we experience all kinds of brokenness – broken hearts, broken bodies, and broken spirits. Our broken hearts are consequences of emotional distress and disappointment, our broken bodies from sickness and physical pains, and our broken spirits come with obvious symptoms such as despair, sadness, low morale, sadness, and depression. Jesus came to restore people to wholeness and to make them enjoy the fullness of life. He says, “I have come that they may have life to the full” (John 10:10). He fulfills the words of the Psalmist which says, God “heals the broken-hearted and binds their wounds” (Psalm 147:3). He healed Simon’s mother-in-law by approaching her, grasping her by the hand, and helped her up (Luke 4:38-39). More still, all those who were sick were brought to him, he laid his hands on them and healed them” (Luke 4:40). Jesus is still in constant solidarity with the human race, particularly with the sick and suffering. How confident aÀre we in asking Jesus the Saviour to heal our broken hearts, bodies, and spirits?
