FR. GERALD MUSA HOMILY FOR THURSDAY OF THE 20TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME CYCLE II
THEME: THE WEDDING FEAST
BY: FR GERALD M. MUSA
HOMILY FOR THURSDAY AUGUST 18 2022
The Parable of the Wedding Feast reflects what happens in real life. Friends easily disappoint us and strangers surprise us. Jesus narrates a parable about a man who invited friends and well-wishers to the wedding feast of his son. Those he invited did not show up and so he opened his doors to strangers who were willing to join in the celebration. Likewise, God invites us daily to feast with him in the kingdom of righteousness, peace, and joy, but we are too busy to respond to his noble invitation. He invites us to feast from his Word and the Bread of Life, but we seek satisfaction in the things that do not last. Even though the wedding feast was an open invitation, there was only one requirement – everyone is to come with the prescribed dress code. The guest who did not wear the dress code was thrown out. The garment is that which identifies a true guest and the garment symbolizes character, attitude, kindness, love, goodness, mercy, and joy. Wise people say, “A gloomy guest fits not a wedding feast.” Putting on the right garment means coming to him with the right disposition. Are we ready to join wholeheartedly in this banquet that God prepares daily for us and are we willing to put on the right garment that qualifies us for entry into the feast?
