HOMILY FOR SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 24 2022
Memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Ecclesiastes 11:9-12:8; Luke 9:43-45
Human beings like adventure. This is truer of young people. We want to try new things; make new friends; travel to new places. When we look around us today, we wonder how many young people still think about the things of God. How many still read their bibles, or say their rosaries, or visit the confessional, or attend Masses, or receive Holy Communion? The first reading reminds us that it’s not unusual for the young person to follow the promptings of his/her heart, but that a time of reckoning will come.
Friends, a time will come when strong men and women become bowed with age; when we shall lay still, and mourners gather all around. At that time, what matters will not be how many new places we visited, or the adventures we embarked on. What matters will not be how rich or famous we were, how handsome and beautiful we looked, or how hard we slayed. The sufferings we bore for the sake of Christ; the persecutions we faced for the cause of justice and right; the sacrifices we made for the common good… These will be all that matter on that day of reckoning. May Mary our mother intercede for us, as we journey on this path of righteousness, Amen.
Good morning dear. God bless your weekend.
