Today is the last Sunday of the liturgical calendar of 2019-2020 Year A and solemnity of the Christ the King. It is a celebration on which we acknowledge the universal kingship of Jesus Christ who came into this world to save us. He is the king that redeemed and will come back to judge the living and the dead. Readings of today especially the first reading and the gospel presented us dual functionality of the king who SHEPHERDS AND REWARDS HIS SUBJECTS AT THE END.

A young man was getting drowned in a sea, fortunately an old man was passing by saw and jumped in to rescue the man. Young man appreciated the old man for saving his life. Years later, the young was caught stealing from a jurist and was prosecuted. In the course of the proceedings, the young man recognized the old man as one who saved his life years ago from getting drowned. He was so confident that the old man will do everything to have him acquitted and discharged but at the end of the day he was sentenced. The young man quickly reminded him how he saved his life years ago from getting drown. The old man responded, in the past I was your savour but today I am your judge. Young man had to pay for his offenses in the prison.

2,000 years Jesus Christ came into this world as a humble king born in Bethlehem to save us from condemnation of sin and same king will come again to judge us. Therefore, requisite of the judgement is given to us as were outlined in the gospel today. Are we alert to notice this?

During my seminary days, there was most important time which no one dare to miss out. It was the revision time. Every Professor gives likely areas or topics of concentration having gone through many topics within the semester. Professor does this because he wants all his students to pass. It will be a joke on any student who failed to adhere to the guidelines and lead outside the scope of the exam topics . Surly, he will have himself to be blamed.

Friends, of all teachings of Jesus Christ, he streamlined them under “ LOVE OF GOD THROUGH PROPER HUMAN RELATIONSHIP. “Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of the least brothers of mine, YOU DID FOR ME” Matt. 25:45.

Friends, areas of concentration for the final exams have been given; feeding the hungry, visiting the imprisoned, burying the dead, clothing the naked, caring for the sick, giving shelter to travelers ad offering drinks to the thirsty.

What else do we expect from King Jesus on the final judgment. Perhaps, the message is saying “ BEFORE WARN IS BEFORE ARMS”. I pray that God makes us understand that our earthly life time is dropping off gradually and that make hay while sun shines.

Wishing you all blessed Sunday celebration.
