Homily for Thursday October 14 2021
Romans 3:21-30; Luke 11: 47-54
Have you ever wondered why it’s so difficult to change people’s orientation from evil to good? Worry less. It has always been so from time immemorial. In the gospel reading of today, Jesus condemns three sets of people: those who kill the prophets, those who build the tomb of the slain prophets, and lawyers who have taken away the key of knowledge. Jesus says these people will pay for their actions. This condemnation brought him intense opposition from the scribes and Pharisees.
Friends, for far less than a plate of jollof rice, many are willing to kill today. It’s that bad. We speak ill of those who tell the truth; we even dig graves and bury them inside. Then we witness to lies when asked for an account. In spite of these, there are those who continue to stand out. So do not give up on the struggle to let good prevail over evil; after all, we have all sinned and fallen short of God’s glory. But with the Lord there is mercy, in him is plentiful redemption. So don’t forget to make a change of heart today. Come to Jesus, who is the way, the truth, and the life.
