HOMILY FOR 3RD SUNDAY IN ADVENT (YEAR B)

SHORT HOMILY FOR THE 3RD SUNDAY OF ADVENT YEAR A.

THEME: Gaudete Sunday!

BY: Fr. Justus Oruma.

(a) The third Sunday of Advent is called Gaudete Sunday, a time we are called to rejoice in the Lord who is to come to bring us joy and happiness.
(b) Jesus told us of the great personality of John the Baptist. John the Baptist sent his disciples to confirm the personality of Jesus, for he was aware that he who is to come is to bring joy, happiness and peace to the poor and the needy. In confirmation, Jesus told them; “Go and tell John what you have seen and heard…”

(c) “What do we see and hear” of many people these days in the name of preparing for the Christmas? Robbery, cheating, killings kidnapping, excessive demands and charges for money just to celebrate the Christmas “in a big and flamboyant unchristian way” and people are sent to mourning and weeping, because of these attitudes. You give sorrow instead of joy (the Gaudete). Is that your personality this season? I declare woe to you!!! Gaudete Sunday- Make people smile and rejoice then you share in the joy of Christ, who is born to us.
