Short homily for Saturday of the 1st Week of Lent

Theme: Avoid selective goodness!

By: Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor (Uromi Diocese)

Homily for Saturday March 12 2022

Deut. 26:16-19; Matt. 5:43-48

Imagine you wake up one day to a heavy downpour of rain. It’s the rain you’ve been expecting. So you quickly rush down to gather the rain drops. But just as you get outside, you notice that the downpour has completely avoided your house. Bewildered, you look at your neighbour’s compound, and it’s raining cats and dogs there. What would you do?

Friends, God is not selective in His goodness; He let’s his rain fall on the good and the bad alike. He does not give us less oxygen to breathe on the days we’ve been most sinful, neither does he mute our voices when we lie too much. We must learn something from God’s ways, and not be selective in the good we render to people, including our enemies. Let the love and generosity flow; from the most, to the least deserving. That’s how to struggle towards perfection. It’s difficult, but possible by God’s grace.

Good morning dear. God bless your weekend.
