Theme: Jesus is life!

Homily for Friday January 7 2022

1 Jn. 5:5-13; Luke 5:12-16

Imagine living without breathing. Have you ever tried ceasing your breath for a minute? That’s how life is without Jesus. St John tells us that anyone who does not have the Son of God, has no life. This is so true. Try to imagine what life must have been like for a leper in Jesus’ day. A leper was a ‘living dead’; a zombie of sorts. He had no friends, except fellow lepers, no family, no loved ones, nothing! He was so despised he had to constantly carry a bell to warn people of his arrival.

Today, this leper walks up to Jesus with courage. He knows he has to live again. So he walks up to life itself and makes his request. The request was not forceful but full of faith and submission: “Sir, if you want to, you can cure me.” Friends, Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him. Yes! He didn’t mind the leprous skin, he touched him. Of course, Jesus wants to make us better. So hurry now! Let’s take those leprous parts of our lives to Jesus for healing. He is life, and without him we’re just zombies. Are you with me?

Good morning dear. God bless your weekend ahead.
