REFLECTION/HOMILY FOR 7TH SATURDAY OF EASTER – YEAR B

HOMILY THEME: “What if I want him to remain until I come? What concern is it of yours? You follow me.”

BY: Bishop Anthony Ewherido

Acts 28:16-20, 30-31; Psalm 11:4, 5, 7; John 21:20-25

My Morning Minute With Jesus

Our two readings today come from the end of the Acts of the Apostles and John’s Gospel, marking a somewhat statement of “mission accomplished.” Jesus’ mission is accomplished and the baton is handed on to his disciples, represented by Peter and the Beloved Disciple. What matters as they continue Christ’s work is to simply follow Christ every step of the way. Paul obeyed that instruction to follow and accomplished his own mission as he witnessed to the good news about the Lord Jesus Christ in Rome. There he was beheaded and martyred for his faith around 68 AD., following years of imprisonment.

Like Peter and Paul our mission is to continue Christ’s mission, bringing the good news to the ends of the earth. As we do that, we are reminded once more that our destiny is bound to that of the Master, whom we follow faithfully, no matter where the Spirit and the journey lead us. We must not allow the journey of others distract our focus, because Jesus will quickly remind us to mind our business, and simply “follow” where he leads. May God give us the courage and grace to do just that. Again, the Lord invites us to stop looking sideways or backwards; to stay focused on our purpose and destiny and walk quietly and obediently with Him.

Spirit of Wisdom and Understanding; Abide with us.
