REFLECTION FOR THE 24TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR C
THEME: GOD’S MERCY AND JOYFUL LOVE
BY: SR. J. K. OSIYEMI, EHJ
REFLECTION FOR SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 11 2022
Lk 15: 1-32.
Though it can be difficult to comprehend the magnitude of the mercy of God for sinners, I am very grateful to him for showering so much love and mercy on me despite my sinfulness. I am not in any way derserving of God’s mercy, but he continues to lavish me with wisdom, strength, health and peace. God’s open door and welcoming policy has helped me a lot. That is why I always run back to eat and drink of his mercy. God is joyful at my repentance, therefore, I too should be forgiving of other’s offences so that I do not miss the opportunity of experiencing joy. When I place myself in the shoes of the elder brother I find myself thinking in the same way as him. Do I stand aloof, far off and judgmental against those who have made gross mistakes in life? Do I rejoice with my sister/brother who was lost but is now found?
LET US PRAY
Thank you Lord Jesus for forgiving my many offences against your rich love and goodness. May I also be truly merciful like you towards sinners and defaulters. Forgive me for being bitter and resentful at the benevolence you show to others. May I always have the grace to return to you whenever I realize my folly. May I never ever feel that God has given up on me. Amen.
