HOMILY OF THE 2ND WEDNESDAY IN EASTER — YEAR A

HOMILY OF THE 2ND WEDNESDAY IN EASTER — YEAR A

HOMILY THEME: GOD IS LOVE

BY: Fr Francis Onwunali

Acts 1:12-14; Psalm (Luke 1:46-46); Luke 1:26-38

The readings of today point to God’s unconditional love to humanity. Greater love is manifested in the cost and sacrifice of the giver. True lovers hold nothing back but give their best to their beloved, even their lives.
In the gospel (John 3: 16-21), God proved His love for each one of us by giving us His only begotten Son who freely offered His life in atonement for our sins and the sins of the world. God’s love, when sincerely responded to, dispels fear and liberates from any form of bondage or chain.

ALSO RECOMMENDED: HOMILY OF THE 2ND WEDNESDAY IN EASTER

This is the case in the first reading (Acts 5: 17-26) where Peter and others having been released from prison by an Angel, still went back to the Temple to preach in the same Name for which they were jailed.
Dear friends, in Jesus, we need not fear our enemies nor live in chains of fear. The Apostles were not only freed from physical chains but also from the chains of fear because the Holy Spirit, the Love of the Father and the Son, dwells in them. God’s love is better than life itself. Do I love God so as to live in the freedom of God’s children? In the turbulent conditions of our lives, it is demanded of us to share this unconditional love of God with those in desperate need and everyone.
I pray that as we journey in life today, may the love of God consume and transform our hearts. May we freely desire God with our whole heart and love others generously for God’s sake and His glory. With the Psalmist, we say: “Glorify the Lord with me. Together let us praise His name” (Ps. 34: 3). Have a Happy Love-full day!
