HOMILY OF THE 15TH FRIDAY OF ORDINARY TIME: YEAR A
HOMILY THEME: FOR THE SON OF MAN IS LORD EVEN OF THE SABBATH DAY
BY: Fr Francis Onwunali
Exod 11:10–12:14; Psalm 116:12-13, 15-18; Matt 12:1-8
On this 18th day of July, with honour and glory to God, I enjoin you to thank God with me for the privilege of being called into the Priesthold of Christ, the Chief Priest, this past Twenty-Seven years (27yrs). We are reminded today of God’s intervention in the life of His people and the provision of meal for their journey towards salvation.

The first reading (Ex. 11: 10- 12: 14), describes the first Passover and the ritual meal associated with it. The blood of the lamb of the Passover meal on the door post is a symbol of their deliverance and freedom from the wrath that will befall the Egyptians. It also describes the meal and how they were to keep it as a memorial of the Lord’s freeing them from their slavery in Egypt. This Passover meal prefigures the Eucharistic meal instituted by Christ, the Lamb of God, at the Last Supper commemorating the Passover.
Jesus, in the gospel (Matt. 12: 1-8), defended His disciples and encouraged participation in the meal of His presence. As Lord of the Sabbath, Jesus sustains the needy even in the midst of the Sabbath law. In Jesus’ presence, misery is met with mercy, the burden of the cross of our life is met with compassion
Dear friends, as pilgrims on the journey of salvation, Jesus, the Bread of Life, and the Blood of Salvation, is our only source of strength. What is my disposition towards the Table of the Lord, the Eucharist? Do you trustingly desire to be fed by God’s word and nourished with His Body?
I pray that as we journey in life today, we will examine ourselves and approach the meal of our redemption, the Body and Blood of the Lamb of God. As Christians, it is fitting that we gather frequently to remember our Lord Jesus Christ by doing that which He did on the night before His death, and which He commanded to do. In offering this sacrifice of thanksgiving and calling upon the Name of the Lord, may God’s mercy and love flow unto us. Have a transformation-full day!
Please pray for me as I mark my 27th Priestly Anniversary
