HOMILY OF FRIDAY IN THE EASTER OCTAVE — YEAR A

HOMILY THEME: OPPOSITION TO OUR EVANGELICAL VOCATION

BY: Fr. Benedict AGBO

Acts 4:1-12; Psalm 118:1-4, 22-27; John 21:1-14

1. There is bound to be strong opposition to the true faith. The priests, Saducees and temple captains were extremely annoyed at their teaching the people the doctrine of the resurrection.
2. Fearless faith is required of true evangelists. ‘We are glad to tell the whole people of Isreal that it was by the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, the one you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by this name is this man is standing here perfectly healthy’.

3. When we insist on operating our occupation or profession outside the will of God (our vocation) we are often fraustrated. Simon Peter said, ‘I’m going fishing…and caught nothing’.
4. Finally Jesus said, ‘Throw the net out to starboard‘. He got over 153 fishes.
5. Miracle takes us to a deeper level of encounter. ‘The disciple Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord”‘.
May God give us a deep resurectional faith accompanied by a spiritual encounter which will activate our faith away from the inactivity mode to the stage of fearless witnessing.
