HOMILY OF 6TH TUESDAY IN THE ORDINARY TIME — YEAR A
HOMILY THEME: HAVE YOU BUILT YOUR ARK?
BY: Fr. Oselumhense Anetor
Gen 6:5-8, 7:1-5, 10/Ps 29/Mk 8:14-21
Think about how much freshness and newness genuine love brings. Although God found man to be so wicked, and regretted creating him, there was still one, Noah, who remained in His favour. In His love for man, God instructed Noah to build an Ark, and even gave the wicked people an opportunity to be saved. But they wouldn’t listen. As the waters purified the earth in the first reading, so God’s love gave us a second chance in His Son, who has become our bread of life in the New Testament.

Friends, just before today’s gospel passage, the Pharisees had asked for a sign before they could believe in Jesus; a request that Jesus refused to grant. They understood the coming of the Messiah only in terms of earthly signs and wonders, wealth and power. This was an evil inclination they held in common with Herod, who only wanted earthly wealth and power, and could murder children just to keep it. We must reject the narrow-mindedness of the Pharisees and the immoral pleasure seeking attitude of the Herodians. What we need is one Art of Random Kindness (ARK), to love as Christ loved us. Have you built your ARK?
Good morning dear. God bless your day ahead.
