HOMILY OF 31ST FRIDAY OF THE ORDINARY TIME — YEAR B

HOMILY THEME: Our homeland is in heaven, and from heaven comes the Savior we are waiting for, the Lord Jesus Christ.”

BY: Bishop Anthony Ewherido

Philippians 3:17-4:1, Ps. 122:1-5, Luke 16:1-8

Everyone acknowledges the fact that our true home is in heaven but not many are enthusiastic about going there now. We still cling to our earthly abode with all its allurements.

Today’s gospel reminds us that stewardship and accountability are Central elements in our relationship with God. We must transfer the ingenuity with which we deal with worldly affairs to the spiritual realm. The corrupt Steward displayed great wisdom in accepting his fate once he had been told that his end had come. The master’s praise of the servant’s action is not an endorsement of corrupt practices. What he praised him for was his shrewdness in trying to secure his future, as a “child of this world.” We are children of light and are encouraged to do everything possible to secure our spiritual destiny. God cannot be bribed like the debtors. As we build our spiritual equity, we must be so detached from this world’s attractions as to be free for the transfiguration of our wretched bodies into copies of Christ’s glorious body.

Lord, bless our preparations for our heavenly home. Amen.
