HOMILY OF 20TH TUESDAY IN ORDINARY TIME — YEAR A
HOMILY THEME: FOR GOD ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE
BY: Fr. Ernest Cross
Judg 6:11-24; Psalm 85:9, 11-14; Matt 19:23-30
In the gospel of today, a young rich man approached Jesus with a question about what he has to do to gain eternal life. Jesus invited him to sell all he had , give them to the poor and then come and follow Him. He was sad at hearing Jesus’ response.

Jesus was offering him freedom-Freedom to love, freedom to trust, freedom to follow without reserve and freedom from worldly attachment. He did not appreciate this gift of freedom because he was so much attached to his wealth. Our hearts are in tragedy when we are attracted to the eternal, yet clinging to the temporal.
What is our choice today? Do we trust in ourselves, our possessions and status? Or are we ready to follow Jesus who alone is capable of giving us life in abundance? What we lose following Jesus does not matter as much as what we gain following him. We follow him not into loss but into fullness of life.
God bless you.
