HOMILY OF 1ST FRIDAY OF THE ORDINARY TIME — YEAR A

HOMILY OF 1ST FRIDAY OF THE ORDINARY TIME — YEAR A

HOMILY THEME: Energy of Love and Faith

BY: Fr Ernest Cross

Heb 4:1-5, 11; Psalm 77(78):3-4, 6-8; Mark 2:1-12

According to the gospel reading for this morning, the paralyzed man needed to be physically carried to reach his destination. He required assistance from others, and fortunately, he had wonderful friends.

These friends did everything in their power to ensure that he was positioned before Jesus, even going so far as to make a hole in a perfectly good ceiling to do so. Their actions were fueled by love, which served as a powerful energy, alongside their faith.

The gospel highlights Jesus’ observation of their faith. Through the power of Jesus, this man was able to embrace a fuller life, thanks to the energy of their love and faith. We must never underestimate the positive force that resides within our faith-driven love. Our love, filled with faith for the welfare of others, can be a powerful tool for the Lord. As Paul states in his epistle to the Galatians, “The only thing that counts is faith working through love.”

God bless you.
