HOMILY THEME: “SOME PEOPLE SEE AND HEAR BUT DO NOT UNDERSTAND”

INTRODUCTION
The readings of today, invite us to reflect on God’s revelation and our ability to understand His word.
FROM OUR FIRST READING
In the first reading, God calls Moses to prepare the Israelites for His presence on Mount Sinai. He tells them to sanctify themselves and be ready for His appearance. Thunder, lightning, and a dense cloud cover the mountain as God descends, showing His power and presence.

WHAT DO WE LEARN FROM THE FIRST READING?
Reverence means recognizing God’s greatness and our need to be humble before Him. In a world where it’s easy to feel self-sufficient, these readings invite us to bow our hearts to God. Just as the people of Israel prepared themselves, we are called to take time and prepare our hearts to welcome God’s presence and listen to His guidance.
FROM OUR GOSPEL READING
In the Gospel, Jesus explains why He teaches in parables. He says that some people see and hear but do not understand because their hearts are closed. The parables are meant to reveal truths to those who are open and willing to listen.
WHAT DO WE LEARN FROM THE GOSPEL READING
God desires a relationship with each of us that involves trust and commitment. This means taking time to know Him, to pray, and to understand His teachings. It’s easy to go through the motions, but Jesus calls us to seek God in a way that changes our hearts and minds. Following God is not about simply following rules but about letting His love guide our actions.
So, what does this mean for us today? It means two things:
1. Be respectful when you come to God. Whether it’s at Mass, or when you pray alone, remember how great and holy God is. Give Him your full attention and honor.
2. Keep your heart open to God’s message. Don’t just listen to the words; try to understand what God is really trying to tell you. Be open to learning new things about God, and about how He wants you to live. Sometimes His message might challenge us or ask us to change, but if our hearts are open, we can grow.
CONCLUSION
When we are respectful and have open hearts, we can truly connect with God. We can feel His love and understand His wisdom. And that’s a wonderful blessing.
Let’s try to do that today and every day of our Lives through Christ our Lord, Amen!
