HOMILY OF 15TH TUESDAY IN ORDINARY TIME — YEAR A

HOMILY OF 15TH TUESDAY IN ORDINARY TIME — YEAR A

HOMILY THEME: CALL FOR REPENTANCE

BY: Fr. Ernest Cross

Exod 2:1-15a; Psalm 69:3, 14, 30-31, 33-34; Matt 11:20-24

In the gospel reading of today, we see total and undue rejection of grace of God. Jesus reproaches Chorazin, Bethsaida, and Capernaum because the inhabitants of those cities witnessed His mighty works yet remained unmoved.

Here, we encounter not merely historical judgment, but a timeless warning about the hardening of hearts.
The tragedy lies not in God’s absence, but in our blindness to His presence. These cities possessed every privilege. They saw miracles, heard divine wisdom, experienced God’s tender mercy made manifest. Yet familiarity bred contempt. The extraordinary became ordinary through spiritual torpor.
Tyre and Sidon, pagan cities, would have repented in sackcloth and ashes. This teaches us that grace is not automatic; it requires our free response. The light of Christ can shine brilliantly, but we must open our eyes to receive it.

Let us examine our own hearts. Do we, like those ancient cities, take God’s gifts for granted? Or do we respond with the wonder and conversion that grace demands?

God bless you.
