HOMILY OF 14TH WEDNESDAY OF ORDINARY TIME — YEAR A
HOMILY THEME: “THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN HAS COME NEAR.”
BY: Fr. Ernest Cross
Gen 41:55-57; 42:5-7, 17-24; Psalm 33(34):2-3, 10-11, 18-19; Matt 10:1-7
In the gospel reading of today, Jesus Christ entrusted His apostles with authority over unclean spirits and commanded them to proclaim that “the kingdom of heaven has come near.” This is not merely historical narrative, but a living word that echoes through the centuries to reach us today.

The kingdom of God is not a speculation or distant promise. It is the transformative reality of righteousness and peace that Christ brings into our world. When we speak of righteousness, we mean that profound harmony with God’s will that restores human dignity. When we proclaim peace, we announce that reconciliation between God and humanity which heals all divisions.
Like the apostles, we too are sent forth. In our families, workplaces, and communities, we must be heralds of this kingdom. Through our witness of justice and our commitment to peace, we make present the saving power of Christ, drawing souls to the light of truth that alone can satisfy the human heart’s deepest longings.
God bless you.
