HOMILY FOR WEDNESDAY OF THE 6TH WEEK OF EASTER
THEME: Media Literacy for DISCIPLESHIP!
BY: Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor (Uromi Diocese)
HOMILY FOR WEDNESDAY MAY 25 2022
Acts 17:15,22-18:1; John 16:12-15
Simply put, Media literacy is the ability to access and analyse media messages as well as create, reflect and take action, using the power of information and communication to make a positive difference in the world. The child in our world today is exposed to so much information. Yes! Sometimes, very wrong information. With social media and mainstream media, news spread like wildfire; bad news even more. So who’s still ignorant? At the time Paul preached to the Athenians, he told them that God overlooked their idolatrous actions when they were still ignorant. They didn’t know the ‘unknown God’ just yet. However, now, it was time to kill their ignorance and introduce them to the one true God.
Friends, ignorance is no more an excuse. We cannot simply choose to walk away from the Areopagus as many of the Athenians did in Paul’s day. We cannot continue to worship fellow human beings, our money in the bank, our cars and houses, or even ourselves. It’s time to give all worship to the one true God. We must bend our wills to God’s will by being docile to the promptings of the Holy Spirit deep in our hearts, that we may be led from ignorance to truth. This is what the Church seeks to do during this communication week. As we wait for the Lord to ascend to heaven, may we never forget to say, “come Holy Spirit, come!” May our knowledge of God move us to positive action. Amen.
Good morning dear. God bless your day ahead.
