HOMILY FOR TUESDAY OF THE 4TH WEEK OF ADVENT. (3)

HOMILY FOR TUESDAY OF THE 4TH WEEK OF ADVENT.

THEME: The Mystery of the Incarnation.

BY: Fr Francis Onwunali.

Today in our liturgy, we are presented with the prophecy and Mystery of the Incarnation, all because of Love. When God commands he also gives the help, strength, and means to respond. We can either yield to his grace or resist and go our own way. Do you believe in God’s promises and do you yield to his grace?

In the first reading (IS 7: 10-14), Prophet Isaiah presents God’s intervention during the reign of Ahaz, responding to fear and doubt of His presence in the midst of His people. A sign is given- the virgin birth of a son to be called Immanuel, God-is-with-us, so that Ahaz and all the people will trust and believe that God is working in their midst.

In the gospel (Lk 1: 28-36), Luke presents to us the fulfilment of this prophecy. Mary allowed God to move mightily in her life. In the power of the Holy Spirit, she conceives Immanuel, God-with-us.

Dear friends, the Mystery of the Incarnation reveals the fullness of divine presence and allows us, mere mortals, to see God face to face. The Psamist today promises a blessing for those who seek God’s face (Ps. 24: 5-6). Part of seeking God face is allowing God to reign and take control of our life rather than allowing anyone or anything to do so.

I pray that as we continue our Advent journey, we will keep reflecting God presence in our lives, proclaiming that with God all things are possible (Matt. 19: 26). Am I ready to totally allow God to move mightily in my life? May we receive blessings from the Lord and reward from the God who saves us. Have a joy-full day!
