Homily for Tuesday February 4 2020
(Mk. 5:21-43) Tuesday of the Fourth Week in Ordinary Time
In today’s Gospel we have two healings by the Lord Jesus. A woman who had been bleeding for years was healed by merely touching Jesus. A child who died was brought back to life after being commanded by Jesus.
The faith of the woman was incredible. In this case, she practically stole the healing power from Jesus. She did it without actually asking Jesus but by striving to touch Him amidst the many who were around Jesus and following Him very closely. On the other hand, He was invited by the desperate father of the dying child to their house.
Both healings were out of faith. The mere touch by the woman was enough for her. She need not be directly addressed by Jesus. Having that kind of faith allows miracles. To illustrate, not everyone who had gone to pilgrimage areas like Lourdes and Fatima are healed. Even if we are not able to go to those places, we can have the healing power of God in faith. Bringing back somebody to life is the ultimate miracle. Jesus called the girl back to life. The girl obeyed. Such is God’s power. If we have a faith like what the father’s had, even rescucitation is possible.
Let’s cultivate our faith. It can bring us healing. It should also bring us back to God.
