HOMILY FOR TUESDAY OF THE 2ND WEEK OF EASTER
THEME: One Heart & Soul
BY: Fr. Gerald M. Musa
HOMILY FOR TUESDAY APRIL 26 2022
Sages of Africa say “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” A community, association, organization, or institution goes far when it remains united. The early Christian community teaches us the value of being together.“The company of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one said that any of the things which he possessed was his own, but they had everything in common” (Acts of the Apostles 4:32; 2:44). They prayed together, followed the teaching of the Apostles, and were continually devoted to the breaking ofbread with one accord (Acts of the Apostles 1:44; 2:1; 2:42). St. Paul challenges all followers of Christ to stay united, saying, “There is one body and one Spirit just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all” (Ephesians 4:5-6). This pristine Christian community challenges the Christian Church of today which is divided by doctrines, politics, economic interest, and individualism. Our main challenge is to be a family of God with one heart and soul. As someone said, “The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing.” How do we restore the main things that define a Christian community which are unity and love?
