HOMILY FOR TUESDAY OF THE 23RD WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME CYCLE II
THEME: Worldly Solutions?
BY: Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor (Uromi Diocese)
HOMILY FOR TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 6 2022
I Cor.6:1-11; Luke 6:12-19
What St Paul talks about in the first reading is a problem that many of us Christians still have today. We are so worldly minded that every case of wrongdoing has to be settled in court. We so much distrust ourselves, that we believe only a civil lawyer can help settle the issues we have, no matter how little. This is sad. St Paul laments that it’s bad enough for the Corinthians to have lawsuits against one another, but it’s even worse that they’re responsible for the wrongdoing and the cheating on one another.
Friends, before Jesus made any serious decisions, He prayed. In today’s gospel reading, he spent all night in prayer before choosing the “Apostles” from the “disciples”. The Apostles were those who had followed him so closely that they were qualified to be “sent.” One who is sent, cannot be carnal minded, else he/she will lead people astray. St Paul says anyone who’s immoral, an idolater, adulterer, fornicator, homosexual, thief, drunk, slanderer, swindler, cannot inherit the Kingdom of God. What’s the matter with us? Let’s try to seek more spiritual solutions to issues all around us, Amen.
Good morning dear. God bless your day ahead ahead.
