HOMILY FOR TUESDAY OF THE 1ST WEEK OF ADVENT.
THEME: ESTABLISHMENT OF THE REIGN OF GOD.

The whole idea of the Advent expectations is the establishment of the Reign of God as promised by God Himself. The Lord Jesus wants us to live in joyful hope and confident expectation that He will come again to fully establish His Kingdom of righteousness and peace.
In the first reading (Is 11: 1-10), Isaiah prophesied: “A shoot springs from the stock of Jesse…. on him the spirit of the Lord rests.. he shall stand as a signal to the peoples”. As the Messiah, He will establish the Kingdom of God, not by force of human will and military power, but by offering His life as the atoning sacrifice for the sin of the world.

In the Gospel (Luke 10: 21-24), Jesus Christ filled with joy by the Holy Spirit as a sign of authority from the Father, ushers in the Reign of God. He exhorts His disciples to be enamored of this privilege of being part of the Reign of God; many sort for it but couldn’t experience it.
Dear friends, one of the characteristics of the Reign of God is the restoration of lost innocence whereby peace will reign supreme because justice has already flourished (Ps. 72: 7). No more wars and oppression among God’s creatures since the knowledge of the Lord will fill the nations. As people configured to Christ, being one with Him, we are part of this reign. So how do I extend this reign of peace and innocence in the life of all around me?
I pray as we journey in life today, our words and actions will tend towards restoring wholeness, alleviating suffering and liberating those in bondage of sickness, physical and spiritual. May God’s name be blessed forever and endure like the sun. Have an innocence and justice-full day!
