HOMILY FOR THURSDAY JUNE 2 2022

*READINGS OF THE DAY*
Acts 22:30,23:6-11
Psalm 15:1-2,5,7-11
John 17:20-26

*ABOUT OUR FIRST READING*
Today’s first reading reminds us that in the time of Jesus and the early church, there were strong differences of opinion among leading Jews regarding matters of faith. The Pharisees believed in the resurrection of the dead, in angels and spirits. The Sadducees did not share any of these beliefs. In that reading, Paul refers to himself as a Pharisee and the son of a Pharisee. His belief in the resurrection of the dead, in angels and spirits while a Pharisee was enriched and deepened through his encounter with the risen Lord. Jesus himself was at one with the Pharisees in these matters of belief and opposed to the Sadducees.

*ABOUT OUR GOSPEL READING*
In the Gospel reading, we heard the Lord praying for the sake of His disciples, that they would be blessed and protected, united and kept as one flock, hence, as Christians we have to realise that in following the Lord, we may often have to endure trials and challenges.

*CONCLUSION*
Dear Friends, Jesus is saying that we become one to the extent that we love one another with the very love that is God’s life, that is within God. How can we love one another with God’s love? The answer consists of two words, ‘Holy Spirit’. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of the love of God the Father and God and Son. It is only in and through the Holy Spirit that we can love one another with God’s love and become one in the way Jesus desires and prays for.
I wish You A Blessed Thursday.
