Theme: ABRAHAM AND JESUS

Homily for Thursday April 7 2022
God promised Abraham prosperity if he keeps the covenant and Jesus promises eternal life to those who keep his word. God fulfilled the promise he made and Abraham became a father of a multitude of nations. Abraham died and so did his numerous biological descendants. “They what had been promised but saw it and greeted it from afar and acknowledged themselves to be strangers and aliens on earth” (Hebrew 11:13). Jesus became a fulfillment of the promise made to Abraham and through Him, God created a holy nation, a new royal priesthood (1 Peter 2:9). “If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise” (Galatians 3:29). Jesus scandalized the Jews when he said to them, “Before Abraham was, I am.” Here He points again to His divine nature by referring to Himself as ‘I am’ (Exodus 3:14). He is bigger than time. He is before all ages and the Alpha and the Omega (Revelation 1:8). Abraham existed only within a period and died and Jesus remains the same, yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrew 13:8). Those who opposed Jesus could not handle the truth about His divinity and so they not receive sought to kill him. Their minds were closed and they saw Him as a blasphemer, impostor, and demon-possessed. Does your eye of faith recognise the divine identity of Jesus?
