(Jn. 6:44-51) Thursday of the Third Week of Easter

In today’s Gospel Jesus told His disciples the role of the Father in salvation. While Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life, it is the Father who draws us to Jesus. The Spirit is working actively with the Father in order for us to be enlightened, attracted, and decide to embrace the faith.

Faith is a gift. We cannot generate it on our own. God, in the Spirit, invites us to a relationship of faith with Him. When we acknowledge the invitation and respond positively, we have arrived at the beginning of faith. When we nurture it and commit to that relationship, our faith is deepened and strengthened.

A lot of those who had converted back to the faith were drawn by fellow Catholics. We should never abandon our responsibility to invite our neighbours to a faith relationship with God. Of course, we do not do a hard-selling because it might be counter-productive. But we must never miss the chance to invite one to faith. When the invited responds positively, faith had slowly crept in and a journey to the Kingdom is on. Of course it is not completely dependent on us. The Holy Spirit will still be there and do its role of opening one to God, in mind and heart. Thus, we ought to dispose ourselves always to God and encourage others to do so too.
