Theme: THE SIEGE OF JERUSALEM!

Homily for Thursday November 28 2019
* Dan 6 : 11 – 27, Lk 21 : 20 – 28.
“When you see Jerusalem sorrounded by armies, then know that its desolation has come near”. This message is still relevant to us today. The end time message has multiple meanings and multiple contextualizations ranging from our individual death time, the siege of Jerusalem, the 2nd coming of Christ, the coming of the era of great persecutions, etc. Today, our temples are not yet being demolished but our priests are being kidnapped on daily basis. Our security network has been rammed by the enemy camp and like the 1st reading said, ‘men are fainting in fear’. Jesus said : ‘When you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies then you will know that the desolation has come near’. I don’t know what this desolation will look like but we know the times are bad. Nigeria has never been as insecure as this both in the North and the South.
The story of Daniel started with physical and spiritual fitness, wisdom and discernment, fasting and devotion, fidelity and righteousness. Yes, when men of God are spiritually fit, the warfare usually ends in their favour. Even the King prayed and fasted for Daniel. And Daniel finally told the king : ‘My God sent his angel and shut the lion’s mouth and they have not hurt me because I was found blameless before him’. Yes, the Word of God made that promise as the signs that will accompany those who believe in his name, Mk 16 : 18. It all ended in praise and there came a decree in favour of the God of Daniel. But when the children of God are not faithful and prayerful ; when the priests have lost focus from the spiritual to the material, when our politicians compromise and are busy looking for 4th and 5th tenures in government ; the story is always tragic. We pray against the siege of Jerusalem in our own time. We continue to pray against the ravaging forces of Islamization and Fulanization in this country.
And as we continue to see our enemies take over our bushes with AK 47 while our own vigilantes are being disarmed, we cannot continue to remain silent.
May the God of Daniel save his people again!
