Theme: God is among Us!

Homily for Thursday November 11 2021

(St Martin of Tours, Bishop).

Wis. 7:22-8:1; Luke 17:20-25

In today’s Gospel reading, Jesus reminds us that we do not need to run from pillar to post in search of God’s Kingdom. It is already among us. There are those who would want to make us believe that Jesus Christ is only present in a certain Church, or on a certain holy mountain, or within a confined space. But Jesus himself tells us not to be bothered, for the true effects of God’s Kingdom have an all encompassing aura.

Friends, we do not need to run from place to place in search of salvation. God offers us various opportunities to be saved daily. I remember reading about St Martin of Tours. Perhaps the most popular story about him is how he gave half of his military cloak to a beggar while he was still a soldier in Amiens. He later had a dream in which the beggar revealed himself to be Christ. This vision was part of what aided Martin’s transition from being a soldier to a hermit, and then a monk, before being ordained a priest, and later a Bishop. Martin recognised God in everyone, especially the poor. Can we do same?

Good morning dear. God bless your day ahead. St Martin of Tours, pray for us!
