BY: Fr. Diotacious Chikontwe SMA
HOMILY FOR THURSDAY APRIL 28 2022
*READINGS OF THE DAY*
Acts 5:27-33
Psalm 33:2,9,17-20
John 3:31-36
*ABOUT THE FIRST READING*
In todays first reading from the Acts of the Apostles we have heard that, as soon as the gospel began to be preached after Pentecost efforts were made by people in authority to suppress it. The gospel was not experienced as good news by some and they made every effort to silence those who were preaching it. However, today’s first reading shows that the efforts of those in authority to silence the gospel were not successful.
*ABOUT THE GOSPEL READING*
Our gospel reading of today, puts before us some very striking statements about Jesus. He comes from above, from heaven, and bears witness to what he has seen and heard there. He speaks God’s own words. God gives him the Spirit without reserve. God the Father has entrusted everything to his Son. All of these statements claim that Jesus has a unique relationship with God. He is the full revelation of God.
*WHAT WE LEARN FROM THE READINGS OF TODAY*
Dear brethrens, the liturgical readings of today reminds us that, the most important decision we can make in life is to believe in the one whom God has sent into the world and allow that belief to shape the whole pattern of our life. Its Jesus, the one whom God has sent into the world to come and serve us.
*CONCLUSION*
May God be with us always, and may He strengthen us all that we may always ever live worthily of His Presence, now and forevermore. Through Christ our Lord, Amen.
