Homily for Thursday December 9 2021

The readings of today reassure us that the joy of being with the Lord supersedes all earthly desires and pleasures. In Christ Jesus, we become new creation, adopted children, washed in His Precious Blood and given a share in the Divine Life of the Blessed Trinity. This makes us co-heirs with Christ in God’s Kingdom. By ourselves, we are nothing, but in Jesus, we are greater than great and “more than conquerors” (Rm 8: 37).

Isaiah in the first reading (Is 41: 13-20) proclaimed to the forsaken and dispersed people of Israel that “your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel” would come to restore his people and to make all things new. John the Baptist announced the arrival of the Messiah and presents Him to the world: “Behold the Lamb of God Who takes away the sins of the world” (John 1: 29).

Jesus in the gospel (Matt. 11: 11-15) declares that of all born of women, non is greater than John, however, in the Kingdom of God, the least person is far greater than John. This is the gift of Adoption and being Co-heirs with Christ. This is a status not given to Angels but is conferred on us by virtue of our baptism.

Dear friends, our coming to Christ through conversion, sharing in the divine life and incorporation into the Body of Christ the Church, has raised us to be citizens of heaven, hoping to see God as God really is. Our salvation can only be stalled by our lack of faith and way of life. The closer we draw to God, the stronger we became in the face of challenges.
I pray as we journey in life today, the joy of our anticipated glory will continue to spur us to live our lives bearing witness to Christ. May the violence we experience in life not deprive us of the joy of the Gospel, rather, may they strenghten us to bear true witness to Christ in this world so that we can reign with Him in the hereafter. Have a joy-full day!
