HOMILY FOR THURSDAY OF THE 25TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME CYCLE II

THEME: Vanity of Vanities!

BY: Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor (Uromi Diocese)

HOMILY FOR THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 22 2022

Eccl.1:2-11; Luke 9:7-9

Life is useless if it doesn’t aim at some spiritual good. Indeed, what matters in the end, is not our money in the bank; or how famous we become for doing something really creative, since there’s nothing new under the sun. There will continue to be wealthy people, and the world will keep seeing creative geniuses. However, what matters is how much of our lives we spend in the service of God and neighbour.

Friends, our search for meaning must be God-centered. Not because we want to see some magical display of miracles, as Herod Antipas did. But rather because we want to get to know God better, that our every decision may he based on genuine love of Him and our neighbour. After murdering John the Baptist, one would have thought Herod would be remorseful. But he missed his chance to be saved, and wanted to Kill Jesus too. We mustn’t make a similar mistake. The right time to seek refuge in God is NOW.

Good morning dear. God bless your day ahead.
