Homily for Thursday of the 24th Week in Ordinary Time Year A
Theme: THE POWER OF SERVICE
By: Rev Fr Joseph Nyarko Asare
Homily for Thursday September 19 2019
1Timothy 4:12-16/Psalm 111:7-10/Luke 7:36-50
(Rev Fr Joseph Nyarko Asare of Obuasi Catholic Diocese)
Paul advises Timothy not to neglect his gifts. The true but mostly untold fact is that the gifted are mostly less motivated until their gifts can serve the personal desires and ambitions of those in authority. But, as Bob Marley will say, let us strive to “roam like lion in Zion”. People will come after us with negative intent but let us keep on moving on and grace will cover us up.
When you begin to serve, some “Pharisaic” onlookers will only see your sinful nature and weaknesses like the woman who ministered at the feet of Jesus with her tears and precious ointment. They will make your service so hard and tedious but keep on fighting and serving His Divine Majesty for your redemption. “I know Jah will never let us down”, says Bob Marley.
The great news is that, as people condemn us with the obvious or projected sins, Jesus looks at our love and sacrifices, projects them and defends us vigorously. At the end, the Lord eliminates our defects and sends us out in peace and glory. All we need to do is to work on our weaknesses, avoid repeating them but keep serving without giving up.
~In thanksgiving to God for His gifts in us
~For the courage and strength to serve under all conditions
~That we never give up
