HOMILY FOR THURSDAY OF THE 17TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME CYCLE II

THEME: Be mouldable!

BY: Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor (Uromi Diocese)

HOMILY FOR THURSDAY JULY 28 2022

Jer.18:1-6; Matt.13:47-53

Today’s first reading brings vivid pictures to mind; the Potter working at the wheel, fashioning clay into different shapes; working the clay into other vessels whenever the vessel he’s making comes out wrong. Wow! Think about the patience of the Potter. He never gives up on the clay, in so far as the clay remains soft and moldable. Are we flexible clay in the Potter’s hands? Think about that for a second. Or do we just prefer to mould ourselves our own way?

The trouble with insisting too much in our own wills is that we can become too rigid, and end up being thrown out by the Potter. If the clay is too hard, the Potter will have no choice but to abandon it. After all, God gives everyone a chance to be lifted from the murky waters in the same dragnet. However, there will always be time for sorting out whatever is of no use. Friends, may we become more flexible, that the Potter may fashion us into worthwhile vessels. May be become useful, that the sorting which will take place at the end of time may not find us wanting, Amen.

Good morning dear. God bless your day ahead!
