HOMILY FOR THURSDAY AFTER ASH WEDNESDAY.

THEME: All that matters!

BY: Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor (Uromi Diocese).

Deut. 30:15-20; Luke 9:22-25

The Season of Lent reminds us that the ‘good life’ is not so much about money, exotic cars, sexual promiscuity, and other temporary pleasures, as many of our young music artistes today want to make us believe. The good life rather consists in keeping God’s commandments. Simple! How we do this is clearly a matter of conscience. We must make a choice between life and death!

In the gospel reading, Jesus says that we must be ready to carry our crosses daily if we must follow him. Yes! Following Jesus isn’t always pleasureble, but it does ensure joy here on earth, and leads to life eternal in the hereafter. We therefore must let go of the extra cash, the material things not truly needed, other worldly pleasures, and focus on saving our souls. When the chips are down, these valuable decisions will be all that matter.

Good morning dear. God bless your day ahead.
