HOMILY FOR THE SOLEMNITY OF THE ASCENSION OF THE LORD
THEME: You will receive power!
BY: Rev. Fr. Oselumhense Anetor (Uromi Diocese)
HOMILY FOR THURSDAY MAY 26 2022
Acts.1:1-11; Eph.1:17-23; Luke 24:46-53
For forty days after his resurrection, Jesus had appeared to his disciples, teaching and encouraging them. He had made sure to prepare them for the arduous ministry which he was now handing over to them. He also made sure to sharpen their focus, that they might not be distracted by frivolities like times and seasons. What was certain was that the Holy Spirit will come and fill them with power – power to become witnesses from Jerusalem to the ends of the world.
Friends, Jesus does not leave us orphans (cf.Jn.14:18) but has promised us so much power, which far surpasses every principality, authority, power, and dominion, and every name that is named not only in this age but also in the one to come. We must therefore go and make disciples of ALL nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. We must first be transformed by the power of his resurrection and ascension, before we can tell it in Church, in our households, in the music, football, and cinema houses, in beer parlours, in hotels and brothels, in the market, in the streets, the towns and villages; everywhere…
Good morning dear; God bless your day ahead. Happy Solemnity of the Ascension! Do try to attend Mass today.
