HOMILY FOR THE MEMORIAL OF OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE. (3)

HOMILY FOR THE MEMORIAL OF OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE.

THEME: Who God has blessed…

BY: Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor (Uromi Diocese)

Num.24:2-7,15-17; Matt.21:23-27

Though there are enemies on every side, the one God has blessed can’t be cursed. Remember Balaam? He went to Israel prepared to curse them, but when he set eyes on Israel, the Spirit of God took over and he blessed her beyond measure. In today’s Gospel reading, the chief priests and elders wanted to disregard Jesus, but one question threw them into confusion. That’s how it shall be for us too if we are at right-standing with God.

Do you remember St Juan Diego Cuauhtlatoatzin, whose memorial was just last week? He was so blessed, the mother of God appeared to him in 1531 on the hill called Tepeyac near Mexico City. Because of his faith, humility and fervour, a Church was built in honour of Our Lady of Guadalupe, whose Memorial we celebrate today. Today, she’s the Patroness of the Americas. I know you have seen that unique picture of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Today is another opportunity to re-examine our values. Do we consider ourselves blessed beyond a curse?

Good morning dear. God bless your week ahead.
