HOMILY FOR THE 6TH MONDAY OF EASTER — YEAR A
HOMILY THEME: CHRISTIANS ARE SINNERS REDEEMED!
BY: Oselumhense Anetor
Acts 16:11-15; Psalm 149:1-6, 9; John 15:26–16:4
In the lives of Lydia and Philip Neri, we see examples of people who knew what it meant to be Christ’s witnesses, breaking traditional boundaries of human behaviour towards accepting and internalising the gospel message that accommodates and accepts others. Lydia led her household to God in today’s first reading, making sure they were all baptised. She even invited the Apostles to come stay in her house, taking no refusal.

Friends, St Philip Neri, whose memorial we celebrate today wanted to be a true witness to Christ through Martyrdom. But God had other plans. He was renowned for his charity works even at a young age. He is also known for saying, “we’re all sinners, but Christians are sinners redeemed.” Philip Neri was one who avoided extremes. He believed that the Christian must neither be too serious, nor too playful, but always have enough light to stay in joy and laughter. Just like Lydia in today’s first reading, he lived his life for others. Can we do the same?
Good morning, God bless your week ahead. St. Philip Neri, pray for us.
