HOMILY THEME: JESUS, THE BREAD OF LIFE
BY: Fr Francis Onwunali
Acts 8:26-40, Ps. 66:8-9,16-17,20, John 6:44-51
We still continue today with the theme of Joy as a result of encountering Jesus. There is always a longing for truth and goodness in our hearts even if we choose to ignore it.

In the gospel (John 6: 44-51), Jesus declares that He has come to reveal the Father to us and to step into the life of the Father entails eating the Bread of Life, Jesus Himself. From His birth, Jesus presented Himself as food being born in a manger (a word taken from French, manger – to eat). In Jesus, all the truthful longings of our hearts are fulfilled.
In the first reading (Acts 8: 26-40), Philip, one of the Deacons, was sent to the Ethiopian eunuch to bring the Good News of Jesus to him. This encounter satisfied the longings of his heart and recreated him anew through baptism, “he went on his way rejoicing.”
Dear friends, just as the Father sent the Son, so is the Son through the power of the Spirit, sending us to bring the Good News to satisfy the yearnings of the human heart. It is in our DNA as Christians to bear Good News. We can fulfil this only if we have been fed and nourished by the Bread of Life. How is my relationship with Jesus?
I pray as we journey in life today, may we be like the Eunuch to receive the Good News that satisfies our heart desires; and like Philip, may someone’s heart desires be satisfied through the Good News we bring. Have a joy-full day!
