HOMILY FOR THE 30TH TUESDAY OF ORDINARY TIME — YEAR B

HOMILY THEME: Blessed are you who fear the Lord, who walk in His ways!

BY: Fr Francis Onwunali

Eph 5:21-33; Psalm 127(128):1-5; Luke 13:18-21

We are presented in our readings today, different analogies to stress on the theme of relationship- marital relationship mirroring the relationship existing between Christ and His Church.
St. Paul in the first reading (Eph 5: 21-33) gives the key phrase to guide this relationship: “Be subordinate (submissive) to one another out of reverence for Christ” (Eph 5: 21). This relationship is a mystery, a sacrament! Within the family circle, this relationship is to sanctify each other

In the gospel (Luke 13: 18-21), Jesus uses the images of mustard seed and yeast to portray the growth of the Kingdom of God.
Dear friends, a relationship with God leads to growth both for the individual and for the community/ church. The bond that exists between Jesus Christ and the Church is a bond of love, understanding, respect, and the giving of self. This is how He wants us to relate with one another, starting with the domestic church and the family.
I pray that as we journey in our lives today, we may radiate love and understanding in our different families so that growth can take place. May the blessings pronounced by the Psalmist be ours: Blessed are you who fear the Lord, who walk in His ways! For you shall eat the fruit of your handiwork; blessed shall you be and favoured (Ps. 128: 1-2). Have a growth-full day!
